For women wanting to read better in community with others, check out the Well Read Mom organization. Over the years we have read many of the wonderful books mentioned on the podcast and others I wouldn't have found on my own.
I recommend anyone still struggling with Harry Potter, listen to The Literary Life Podcast series on the first book. It opens up such a new lens through which to see the books.
I have been sharing those Lit Life episodes with others. I thought my boys and I had made connections when we read Harry Potter, but we had only scraped the top of that iceberg. So so good!
I disagree with the Harry Potter take but enjoyed the discussion. Haven’t listened to that podcast yet but did appreciate Michael D O’Brien’s book “Harry Potter & the Paganization of Culture.”
Highly recommend anything by Brandon Sanderson for anyone looking to explore the intersection of the very human and the path to holiness and virtue in a sci fi/fantasy setting. The Stormlight Archive is my favorite but the Mistborn series is excellent as well. Reading fantasy absolutely helped form my understanding of the beauty of God, true goodness and evil when I was younger — and I still find myself understanding more of these truths as an adult thanks to good fiction. Really enjoyed this episode!

Also I think there was far too little reaction to Casey’s comments on The NeverEnding Story (is there anyone who wasn’t traumatized watching it??) 😂
Can you do a whole episode on L.M. Montgomery? That would be truly amazing. There are hardly any good podcasts on her!
I second this! She is an author I’ve enjoyed, but having dug too deep into yet.

It’s true, I have such a deep respect for Rowling’s work having listened to these
