Not sure if y’all have heard of Christ in the City, but you have a fan base (me included) who are alums of their missionary formation program. The organization is an amazing example of marrying the two realities of love for the poor and love for the traditions of our Church. If you are ever in Denver or Philadelphia you should check it out :) christinthecity.org
I just had to hop on here because I am also part of the CIC alum fan base (and besties with Emma and Alexis)! We love the podcast and the fruits bore from your conversations within our friendships and families. Can’t wait to watch the Inner Sea soon, Kate!
Emma and Alexis that’s amazing! We have heard of them for sure because they do amazing work and because Martin Jernberg, who was the Cinematographer for The Inner Sea, made a documentary about them!
I love the episode title because I have it too! As an American who has served as a missionary in Peru, it’s pretty awesome to have a Holy Father who is also an American who served as a missionary in Peru. There are many reasons to be excited and hopeful!
Yes, love for the poor and for tradition can go hand in hand. I was so happy when I met Family Missions Company and witnessed solid Catholics giving themselves for the poor. I couldn’t but join their ranks.
Thank you for this episode and for speaking so charitably about all popes.
Fantastic episode as usual!! Kate mentioned something in the episode that I think would make a great podcast topic - how caring for the poor and desiring a reverent and beautiful liturgy are not in opposition to one another!
Loved hearing everyone’s first/second/third impressions of our new pope! I am optimistic as well, although my first reaction was similar to Emily’s, having also read and listened to The Pillar’s coverage last week.
One note — something about the audio didn’t work as well this episode. Especially towards the beginning of the episode, it seemed like the microphone wasn’t picking up people’s voices very clearly, so it was hard to understand what people were saying, even when I turned my volume up a lot.
I listened to it on Apple Podcasts; I started listening to it when I was driving and just couldn’t catch everything, but it was a little better when I listened to it with my AirPods. It just seemed like some people’s voices were picked up better by the microphones than others — not a major issue, just wanted to mention it!
I was blown away to hear someone talking about Fr. Virgil Michel. He's still a minor celebrity up at St. John's in Collegeville, but largely forgotten elsewhere. What's the book that Chris was reading about him? Is it the biography by Fr. Paul Marx, OSB?
BTW, the surname is pronounced "Michael." My wife is a distant relative of his and I spent 4 years in Collegeville...trust me.
You should have Ed and JD on the pod!

Hmmmm…I just listened to it again on iTunes and it was fine. How did you listen to it? (As in, which player?)

Thanks for the feedback about the audio- we will look into it!
