Today, Chris, Kate, Casey, and I are talking all things Lent: the meaning of the season, abstinence and fasting, Fish Fries, practical penances, prayer, almsgiving, loving the poor, living Lent in marriage and with children, and what happens when you fail at it all.
Louisiana listener here! Just wanted to say a quick comment of yes, we do have “Lent” culture norms. It’s super common to see the majority of restaurants with a “Lent menu” (which is mainly just seafood😅). There’s also a church walk in New Orleans on Good Friday where you’re given a map of churches and walk to each one while meditating on Way of the Cross or praying a rosary. It’s a big event each year.
It dawned on me as I listened just how much I take the “Catholic roots” that are part of Louisiana as commonplace.
